CR4S charity event

It was a great evening and we had a great time.  Here's the writeup from SailingAnarchy.com:
Reaching out
One of the things we wanted to do while planning for this year's Sailing Anarchy ISAF Regatta was to reach outside to the non-sailing community in a fun and meaningful way. It couldn't have been more perfect that Maggie Hannegan Director, Distinguished Giving American Cancer Society, happened to be helping with the regatta planning. We got together and with the goal of getting kids and their families from their Camp Reach The Sky out sailing in a fun environment, with food, festivities and a good time in mind, we had our the first annual SA/CYC Charity Regatta last night
Now mind you, we didn't raise any money or do any fundraising, but we did see a whole lot of smiles on a whole lotta faces! The race was casual and It was just a fantastic event and we honestly cannot wait to start planning for nest year!We could not have made this happen without the support of the Viper 640 guys lead by Drew Harper of Spinnaker Sailing and Tom Hirsh of Flying Tiger Boats, who along with his sons, quickly assembled two brand new Flying Tiger 7.5's.

And of course our title sponsor, West Marine, who not only printed up t-shirts for all, provided race prizes, but also contributed 40 PFD's for the event and then donated them to the CYC Junior Program.
Local sailors Herb Zoeher, Ken Blackington and a whole host of others contributed to a beautiful day on the water with some amazing kids. Thanks to everyone! Pics by the Ed and Eva Rummel.
Here's a great shot of USA 103 with our team for the evening (they are also pictured at the top of the article):

Camp Reach 4 the Sky regatta

This is an awesome warm up to the beginning of the ISAF sportboat world championship of the world.  We will be taking the Flying Tiger 7.5 sailing with the kids from Camp Reach 4 the Sky.  These kids all have cancer and this program gets them out to try things that they would never have dreamed about.  As well as the Flying Tigers, there will be some other great boats around to take over 100 kids sailing.  I'll post pics tomorrow after the event.

Good Times.

USA 103

Flying Tiger 7.5Meter, USA 103 will be the ride for the Sailing Anarchy ISAF regatta.  Pretty psyched about putting the brand new, never raced boat, on the line with Tom Hirsh (Flying Tiger Boats, USA Pres) and team.  This regatta will be SUPER competitive, racing against Vipers, and probably Mini 6.5's.  There will be AT LEAST 2 other 7.5's on the line and we fully intend to show the speed of these boats as well as their upwind performance against similarly sized sport boats. More updates next week as we get the boat ready and hopefully find time for practice on Thursday afternoon.  No pics of 103 yet, but here's one of us in USA 1 racing against USA 101.

Sailing Anarchy ISAF- Coming soon

JKSailing is working to secure funding to charter a Flying Tiger 7.5m for the ISAF regatta in September.  The plan is to put s team of collegiate sailors together to represent our technical partner as well as compete to win the regatta with a boat full of amateurs with years of sailing success under their belt.

This is an exciting time, not only for JKSailing, but for boat racing in San Diego.  If local businesses begin to see the value of marketing through sailing and the return on investment it generates, Sailing could become more accessible for a wider group of individuals.  Accessibility will no doubt grow participation and more regattas in venues like San Diego Bay, where tourists, locals, fans of sailing, and even those who know nothing about the sport, can come together and watch the wind powering competition.

Fingers Crossed.
Cheers,
JK

Looking forward for the release of the new TellTale

The new version of Telltale will be coming out of the depths of Blue Water Media's Arsenal very soon.  There will be more functionality and versatility.  And best of all..no domain name fees or anything.  I will post more as it gets released and I'm sure all the local Dago fleets will be hearing from me soon

Knocking the Dust Off

So I've decided to put the hiking boots down this weekend and get out on the water with FT10 Niuhi. Looks like it should be a perfect weather weekend so hopefully we'll see some breeze with not a whole lot of the typical Coronado chop.

I'll try to get some pictures up after the weekend.

First Regatta of 2010- J120 Midwinter Championships

So now that the Season is back on here in Dago, it brings me to my first regatta with a great boat and class. The J120 has a solid history of quality racing and solid fleets. San Diego is no exception. This weekend we are looking at fleet numbers in the double digits for a great mid winter championship regatta. I will be sailing with Mike Hatch's J120, J Almighty. Mike is fairly new to the boat and the class, but he is a pilot, so he can drive the boat like he stole it. It should be a good time. With Jay Cavialeri (Ex USNA Sailing Director) on Tactics, I plan to navigate and trim on the brilliantly maintained J120. It should be a great opportunity to start the season strong and bring home some early season silver.

Results to follow after the regatta.

Check out this great FREE crew management tool

Telltale- Software for Sailors www.ttsail.com

I have used this software in the past and it is easier than pretty much anything in keeping your crew up to date with all the new tech on the boat and the scheduling of regattas. Check it out...A new format is due to be released that will be hands above the current technology (and will not require a domain name purchase). Contact Blue Water Media or me (jksail@gmail.com) for more information.

Telltale was crafted by sailors for sailors. The platform is a culmination of over 30 years of sailboat owning/racing and 12 years of experience building interactive software and Web based content management systems.

Blue Water Media® started work on Telltale in 2005. First creating sites for sailing programs in Annapolis, the company owners began to realize that there was sustainable need for sailing Web sites. Telltale helps skippers keep track of events, crew, and can communicate with images and message boards in one central location.

JK Sailing's new spot on the web

The year of change is here, and with some new ideas comes an easier way to promote my mission for sailing in San Diego. I hope to be able to promote the fun and spirit of Corinthian sailing in an environment that is PERFECT for doing so. That being said, the owners I am fortunate enough to sail with, do not enter races with a goal of second place. Over the course of the 2010 season, I hope to be able to be part of and help teams that work hard and win boat races.

Boat preparation, mental, and physical preparedness will be the focused areas of this year's success. JK Sailing is back in the business of helping the boat preparation part of that equation become the last possible excuse. Skilled in most boat maintenance above the water line, JK Sailing is a one man show to provide the absolute best and timely value to sailors of all experience levels and boat types. Grand Prix to Cruiser, we got you covered.

See you on the water.
